Contours of the frame has to be the right angle. Too up right or too far back, can result in uneven pressure. The correct angles evenly distribute weight through out the chair.  Produced with 304 grade stainless steel with the correct flex to provide support and comfort.  We keep true to the original 12 mm thickness.

Plush Cushions

Good foam, Dacron layer for the plush look and feel. The leather grade has to be high enough for the textures and sheen to come through. The upholstery of each individual panel requires a highly skilled pair of hands to achieve the symmetry of these panels.  The rear seat cushion edge features an angular contour cut to compliment the angle of the frame

No corners cut

Literally, no corners cut.  Full piece leather corners flow seamlessly across the chair.  All of the cushions, including the buttons, piping and back of the chair, are made with 100% full grain aniline leather (imported directly from tanneries in Italy)

Back Strapping

Double buttoned strap secures the back cushions and prevents movement like the original. 
Cheap ones use 1 strap 1 button and is easy for the cushion to fall off.

Both cushions on our Barcelona Chairs are upholstered with the same full grain aniline leather.

 

Watch Out!

There are a few things to lookout for when buying a reproduction Barcelona Chair.
  • Incorrect dimensions create a very bulky look, if you take a close look at most pictures online you can see the cushions are uneven
  • Poor material quality causes sagging in a short period of time
  • Weak straps and buttons allow for cushions to shift uncomfortably
  • The piping, buttons and back of the chair are usually constructed of pleather or other lower grade leather, which can fall apart in just 3-6 months
  • Metal finish is uneven and usually made of very thin steel
  • Typically made with 10 mm thick stainless steel that is too weak to support weight, causing bounce
  • The corners of all sides are sewn individually. This is the easiest way to spot a cheap reproduction
  • The square shape of the cushion does not sit flush with the frame
  • The number of straps varies, as the more corners they cut the more profit
  • In conclusion, a cheaper knock-off will result in a chair that may possibly last 3-6 months.  A beautiful iconic chair like the barcelona chair will lose much of its appeal once it loses its shape and comfort.
