Product Story

Arne Jacobson always considered himself first and foremost an architect. However, that did not stop him from being one of the most accomplished mid-century designers in the furniture industry. His streamlined chairs, such as the Drop Chair and Egg Chair, are instantly recognizable. Inspired by its namesake, the Swan Chair is a wonderful example of the whimsical side of the era. His playful piece is instantly recognizable with its curving fiberglass shape and graceful armrests. This chair is beautiful in any shade but is especially stunning in bright Danish cashmere and boucle wool colors.

The Designer

Arne Jacobsen

Arne Jacobsen

It takes a unique man to design a modern building so modern that it receives backlash from the public. It takes an even more unique man to respond with, “At least it came in first when they held a competition for the ugliest building in Copenhagen.”

Arne Jacobsen (1902 –1971) was such a man. As a leader in Danish Modernism and Architectural Functionalism, he designed forward-thinking buildings in a holistic manner. From the exterior walls to the cutlery, Jacobsen obsessed about it all.

This level of design distinguished his most famous works. However, Jacobsen is most well-known for his elegantly functional chairs. His Swan and Egg Chairs were designed for the SAS Royal Hotel and continue to be some of the most popular mid-century modern pieces today.

While he rejected the label “designer,” Arne Jacobsen remains one of the most celebrated designers of his time.

Great chair. Better quality than other reproductions I've seen costing twice as much. I also have the egg chair and ottoman, and love the way these pieces go together.

Just Perfect

This chair for an office/ guest room. I used a modern daybed and this chair as an accent piece. It will fit nicely into a few different design styles.
