Description
A relatively recent addition to the modernist design space, the members of the London-based AZUMI studio have produced a number of inspirational items since its inception in the mid-90’s. The LEM Piston Barstool is no exception. With its clean and elegant design, the seat appears to float effortlessly in a modern, minimalist environment; however it is surprisingly sturdy and comfortable.
This reproduction uses genuine Italian leather and a sturdy stainless steel base to create both a sense of class and luxury, and the comfort of knowing that this particular feature of your home or workplace has been made to last. With the touch of a pneumatic lever, you have the ability to manipulate both height and direction. This not only gives you more control over the look of your space but also allows you multi-functional use of the stool.
The AZUMI style Barstool adds a sense of poise and class to your chosen space, and does so at less than half the price of the original – putting it within reach of any discriminating customer.
Azumi, Shin and Tomoko
Consisting of the Japanese team of Shin and Tomoko Azumi, the London-based AZUMI Studio has produced some of the wittiest furniture and products in recent memory. Trained first in Japan then at the prestigious Royal College of Art in London (alma mater to Jasper Morrison, among others), the Azumis established their design studio in 1995. In the short time since, they have won numerous awards for their designs, including "Product of the Year" at the International Interior Design Awards in 2000 for the LEM Piston Stool. The stool's simple form belies a sophisticated understanding of materials and technology, enabling intuitive use of an original seating. This same unique perspective also produced the "Table=Chest", an apparently simple piece of wood furniture that tranforms from a low table to a chest of drawers in a few turns. Indicative of the future of international design, the work of AZUMI Studio is in numerous design collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum.
