Description
Architect and designer Eero Saarinen was famous in particular for his strong commitment to the particular client and project that he was working on, giving him a mastery of various styles within his modernist aesthetic. In his Tulip series of tables and chairs, he focussed on clean, flowing structural curves, simplifying any previous considerations of what a table or chair should look like by placing his items on single stems.
Saarinen’s striking Tulip Oval Dining Table design has inspired this reproduction, crafted from naturally veined Italian white marble and robust powder coated aluminum. Its exquisite look is enhanced by an inherent practicality – arrange several of Saarinen’s Tulip chairs around it and you’ll immediately notice the spacious legroom and ease of movement. Eero Saarinen born 1910 was a Finnish American architect and industrial designer famous for his ability to master varying style. For example, he was accomplished in both simple, sweeping, arching structural curves and seemingly the opposite side of the spectrum, machine-like rationalism. He designed many important pieces of furniture including one of the most famous, the “Womb” chair and ottoman (1948). The “Tulip” or “Pedestal” group (1956), features side and arm chairs, dining, coffee and side tables, as well as a stool. Eero’s designs were extensive, all were highly successful except for the “Grasshopper” lounge chair, which, although in production through 1965, was not a big hit.
