The three-cornered luxurious Coconut chair was created by one of America’s biggest contributors to the 1950’s minimalist movement. George Nelson took his inspiration from a great many similarly minded designers such as Eames and Jacobsen, and curiously, a coconut. Take a coconut, crack it into eight pieces and you reveal a remarkably comfortable chair with a slightly elongated back, shallow arms and appealing curves.
This formal clarity creates a rare freedom for the sitter. With its generously padded leather upholstered cushion, the chair invites you to snuggle into any position you can dream of and change your mind with surprising ease. The Nelson inspired Coconut chair will present your office or home with a very comfortable place to unwind after a long day.
The simplicity of this integrated aesthetic is what has made this design so enduring, and the high quality fabrics and manufacture of this particular embodiment is what will make your own Coconut chair last.
Known as being at the forefront of American Modernism, George Nelson is attributed to being the creator of some of those most iconic pieces of mid century modern design. He began his career early, being published in magazines before graduating from the Yale architecture program. He became a prolific writer in his field as well. Nelson also helped bring the work of Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe to prominence on an international scale.
