Description
Originally designed in 1928, the Le Corbusier Petit Confort Series remains one of the most recognized classics of modernist furniture design nearly eighty years later. Legendary architect and designer Le Corbusier first applied his revolutionary vision of a visible external frame to the LC2 and LC3 lines in order to embody the clean minimalism and industrial rationale of the International Style. There is yet to be any design like it and today, the scaled down elegance of the Petit Confort looks just as cool, whether as part of a ensemble or on it’s own in a smaller space.
Le Corbusier
Le Corbusier born in 1887 was a Swiss architect, designer, urbanist, writer and painter. He is famous for being one of the pioneers of what now is called Modern architecture or the International style. He began experimenting with furniture design in 1928. His cousin, Pierre Jeanneret collaborated on many of the designs. In 1928, Le Corbusier and Perriand began to put the expectations for furniture Le Corbusier into practice. The first results of the collaboration were chrome-plated tubular steel chairs designed for two of his projects, The Maison la Roche in Paris and a pavilion for Barbara and Henry Church. The most famous of these chairs and sofa sets are the now-iconic Le Corbusier LC2, LC3 and LC4. LC2 & LC3 are similar in design with the LC2 being the small version and the LC3 the larger version. Le Corbusier LC4 is the famous Chaise Lounge.
