Phillipe Starck is one of this generations more well-known designers, for good reason. His particularly unusual attitude towards design is the chief cause. Unlike many other popular artists who focus on producing one-of-a-kind statement items, Starck often specifically designs for mass production. However this doesn’t mean that his designs get lost in the crowd - the Ghost Chair is both engaging and innovative whilst being incredibly practical.
This signature item of contemporary furniture is both stable and durable, while being incredibly lightweight and stackable. It is also resistant to much of the wear and tear that other chairs encounter, making it ideal for a variety of environments, from a child’s playroom to an outdoor barbecue party.
This expression of Starck’s Ghost Chair is remarkably indistinguishable from the original, and is made from a single injection of transparent polycarbonate. It is also available in a variety of colours, ideal for a diverse range of environments.
Philippe Starck, the French product designer was born in Paris in 1949. With regards Furniture, he is famous for his designs that are made from polycarbonate plastic. World famous products he has designed include the transparent Louis Ghost chair, Eros chair, Bubble Club sofa, and La Bohème stool. He has also been involved in the re-launch of the World War II-era Navy Chair in the U.S., designing a classic furniture collection around it. Unlike most other New Design artists, Starck’s work does not concentrate on creating provocative and expensive single pieces. Instead, his product designs are of usable household items which Starck himself helps to market for mass production. His products and furnishings are often stylized, streamlined and organic in their look and are also constructed using unusual combination of materials (such as glass and stone, plastic and aluminum, plush fabric and chrome, etc.).
