Josef Hoffman
Josef Hoffman
Josef Hoffman was one of the first early modern designers. The Eastern European-born received a Prix de Rome before being one of the founding members of the Vienna Sucession. He followed this by teaching at the University of Fine Arts Vienna. Beginning in his teaching years, Hoffman won contracts to create major architectural works, such as the Sanatorium Purkersdorf. However, he is remembers best for his work as a designer. The "Sitzmaschine" Chair and a lamp, as well as glassware, are part of the Museum of Modern Art collection. He is also at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His Kubus Chair is still produced today.
