George Nelson (1908-1986) helped establish American Modernism by bringing designers like Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier to the North American scene. Critical of peers who bent to the whims of their clients, Nelson maintained a belief that the ideas of modernism should always been maintained. His Coconut Chair and Platform Bench series are examples of his strong principles and devotion to the style.
